Steel Import Tariffs by Country — Verified China Export Data

MFN duties, FTA preferential rates and anti-dumping measures on Chinese steel, country by country — focused on the HS codes that matter for plate, coil and sections. Every row cites its official source and the date we verified it.

Why we publish this

Steel buyers lose deals to bad tariff data more often than to bad prices. A duty rate copied from a two-year-old blog post can erase a quoted margin overnight. As a Baosteel-channel exporter shipping wear plate and high-strength steel to Southeast Asia, South America, Africa and the Gulf, we verify tariff lines against official sources for every order — and we publish what we verify, row by row, with the source and the verification date on the row itself.

This section covers the steel chapters of the HS nomenclature (Ch. 72 flat, long and alloy products, Ch. 73 tubes and structures). Non-steel tariff lines are out of scope by design: depth on steel beats breadth on everything.

How we keep the data honest

  • Primary sources only for rates. Each duty figure links to the issuing authority — the national customs tariff schedule, the FTA annex, or the government gazette notification. Secondary news reports are used to find changes, never as the citation for a number.
  • A verification date on every country page. Tariffs move; the date tells you how fresh the row is.
  • Blank instead of guessed. Where an official source could not be confirmed, the cell shows '—' rather than an estimate.
  • AI assists, humans verify. Translation and formatting are AI-assisted; every rate is checked against the official source before publication. Spotted an outdated rate? Tell us — corrections ship within days.

Rates are indicative reference values for trade planning, not customs rulings. The duty collected is always the one assessed by customs on the day of import, based on the exact tariff line and origin documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Are these tariff rates legally binding?

No. They are indicative reference values compiled from official sources for trade planning. The rate that matters is the one assessed by the importing country's customs on the day of import, based on the exact tariff line, the declared origin and the documentation presented.

Why is there no single 'China export tariff'?

China does not levy meaningful export duties on ordinary finished steel, so exporting is only half the picture. What changes the landed cost is what the destination country charges on arrival: MFN duty, FTA preferential rate if you hold the right certificate of origin, and any anti-dumping or safeguard duty in force. That is why this section is organised by destination country.

Which HS code do wear-resistant and high-strength plates use?

Most alloy wear plate (NM300–NM600), high-strength structural plate (BS700MC, BS960E, Q690) and silicon steel classify in headings 7225 (flat-rolled alloy steel, coils) or 7226 (other flat-rolled alloy steel, cut lengths) — for example 7225.40 for hot-rolled alloy plate. The exact 8–10 digit line depends on thickness, width and delivery condition, and small classification differences can move the duty. Confirm the line with your customs broker before quoting.

How often is this data updated?

Each country page carries its verification date. We re-verify countries on a rolling monthly cycle and immediately when a government announces a change affecting steel lines we track. Significant changes are also reflected in our steel blog coverage.

Can Baohui Steel handle the origin documentation for preferential rates?

Yes. As a Baosteel-channel exporter we ship with original mill certificates and prepare the certificates of origin (ACFTA Form AC, RCEP C/O, etc.) needed to claim preferential rates. Mention the destination country in your inquiry and we quote with the correct origin paperwork.
