BS700MC is Baowu Steel Group's flagship 700 MPa cold-forming high-strength structural steel — the Chinese counterpart of EN S700MC and SSAB Strenx 700MC. Carbon ≤ 0.12 % with micro-alloying (Nb/V/Ti ≤ 0.22 %) is what makes the grade special: it forms well cold and welds without preheat in most gauges, which is why fabricators prefer it over quenched-and-tempered alternatives for welded structures.

Domestic ex-works equivalents run ¥7,450–7,800/ton — consistently below imported S700MC or Strenx 700MC, which is why OEMs such as XCMG and SANY have qualified it for booms, chassis and frames.

Yes in performance class. BS700MC is Baowu/Baosteel's grade, delivered to Baosteel's technical conditions based on long experience with the EN 10149-2 system; S700MC is the EN designation, Strenx 700MC is SSAB's equivalent. All guarantee a minimum yield strength of 700 MPa with similar tensile (750–950 MPa) and elongation (≥15%).

What do K2, J4 and K4 mean in BS700MCK2/K4?

They are impact-toughness designations. K2 = 40 J at -20 °C; J4 = 27 J at -40 °C; K4 = 40 J at -40 °C. Choose K2 for temperate climates, K4 for arctic or high-altitude service.

What is the price of BS700MC?

Can BS700MC replace Q550D or Q690D?

Often yes, and profitably. BS700MC at 700 MPa minimum yield sits between GB/T 16270 grades Q550 and Q690, and its TMCP as-rolled delivery state gives better cold-forming behavior than Q+T quenched grades. Many crane and truck builders have down-gauged from 8 mm Q550D to 6 mm BS700MC with weight savings of 15–30%.

Is preheating needed for welding BS700MC?

For the TMCP MC grades, welding without preheat is standard practice in most gauges thanks to the low carbon equivalent (C ≤ 0.12 %, CEV well below 0.5). Keep heat input moderate and use matching low-alloy consumables. For thicker gauges or restrained joints, a 75–100 °C preheat is a conservative choice.

What sizes is BS700MC available in?
