16MnDR is a low-alloy high-strength steel specifically engineered for cryogenic pressure vessel applications. Compliant with GB/T 3531-2014 (China) and internationally recognized, this grade excels in environments demanding exceptional low-temperature toughness, weldability, and resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking.
Chemical Composition
The controlled alloy design ensures balanced strength and ductility:
- Carbon (C): ≤0.20% (optimized to minimize brittleness while maintaining strength).
- Manganese (Mn): 1.20–1.60% (primary strengthening element, enhances hardenability and low-temperature performance).
- Silicon (Si): 0.15–0.50% (improves deoxidation and solid-solution strengthening).
- Phosphorus (P): ≤0.025%, Sulfur (S): ≤0.012% (strictly limited to reduce segregation and embrittlement).
- Optional Microalloys: Niobium (Nb), Vanadium (V), or Nickel (Ni) may be added to refine grain structure and enhance hydrogen resistance.
