optimizing logistics efficiency while balancing cost-effectiveness

A recent "road-to-rail" shipment initiative between Baowu Steel Group Wuhan Co., Ltd. (Wisco) and BYD Co., Ltd. has yielded remarkable results, slashing the round-trip transportation cycle from 15 days to just 7 days. This achievement highlights Wisco's commitment to optimizing logistics efficiency while balancing cost-effectiveness, providing customers with an optimal solution for supply chain management.
Over the two-month pilot period, Wisco safely transported over 40 carriages carrying more than 3,000 tons of steel coils. The 53% reduction in transit time has significantly enhanced logistics turnover efficiency for BYD. Notably, all shipments achieved zero quality disputes, reflecting Wisco’s "zero-error" performance and earning strong customer trust.
To address challenges such as large shipment volumes, tight deadlines, and the sensitive nature of steel coils, Wisco’s transportation team implemented a multi-pronged strategy centered on specialized solutions:

As BYD’s production demands grew more specialized, Wisco proactively secured dedicated warehouse space to streamline inventory aggregation and distribution. "We aim not only to ship products out but also to ensure they are stored properly and delivered accurately," emphasized a Wisco logistics representative. By integrating storage and transportation, Wisco has reinforced supply chain resilience and responsiveness.
This project exemplifies Wisco’s customer-centric philosophy in action. Moving forward, the company plans to deepen collaboration with partners like BYD by leveraging digital tools to automate warehousing, transportation, and distribution processes. Additionally, Wisco will capitalize on the inherent low-carbon advantages of rail transport to explore eco-friendly logistics models aligned with national "dual-carbon" goals.

As a first-level distributor of Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (Wisco), Shanghai Baohui Steel has become a critical link in an efficient and agile supply chain. The process begins with shipments from the steel mill, transitioning to rail transport, followed by sea freight to key ports including Shanghai and Tianjin. At these ports, goods are swiftly transshipped to containers or breakbulk vessels, ensuring seamless onward delivery to customers. This integrated approach enables Shanghai Baohui to provide a comprehensive one-stop steel distribution solution, significantly reducing lead times.
